Statement of Policy on Advertising, Sponsorship, Direct Marketing, and Revenue Sources

Journal Statement and Policy

The Journal of Islamic Heritage and Civilization is committed to the principles of transparency, accountability, and academic integrity in all aspects of its operations. In line with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the principles embedded in the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA) license, and the international standards of journals indexed in Scopus, the journal hereby establishes its formal policy on advertising, sponsorship, direct marketing, and revenue sources. The foundation of this policy is to guarantee that no financial, institutional, or commercial interest will ever influence or compromise the editorial independence of the journal. Every editorial decision, including acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts, is made exclusively on the basis of academic merit, originality, and relevance to the field of Islamic heritage and civilization.

1. Advertising

The journal does not accept any form of commercial advertising. This decision is rooted in the responsibility to protect the purity of academic communication and to safeguard the journal from potential conflicts of interest that may arise from commercial partnerships. Allowing advertisements could create the perception of bias, diminish reader confidence, and jeopardize editorial neutrality. For this reason, all published materials remain entirely free from advertising. If at any point the possibility of limited advertising is discussed in the future, strict boundaries will be applied. Advertising content would be clearly separated from editorial material, identified in a transparent manner, and presented in a way that ensures readers do not confuse advertisements with scholarly contributions. Most importantly, advertising would never interfere with the editorial process, the peer review system, or the evaluation of manuscripts.

2. Sponsorship

The journal accepts sponsorship only in relation to the coverage of Article Processing Charges (APC). Sponsorship may be provided by academic institutions, research organizations, or non-profit bodies whose mission aligns with the advancement of scholarly knowledge. Such sponsorship is intended to assist authors in meeting APC obligations, thereby supporting equitable access to publication opportunities. The sponsorship mechanism is clearly defined and transparently communicated through the official APC policy page of the journal. Sponsors are not granted any authority to influence the review process, editorial deliberations, or final publication outcomes. The role of sponsorship is purely financial support for authors, and all decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts remain entirely within the jurisdiction of the editorial board. To reinforce transparency, all sponsorship arrangements will be acknowledged openly, while reiterating that scholarly merit is the sole basis for editorial decisions.

3. Direct Marketing

The journal does not engage in or accept any form of direct marketing. This policy ensures that the communication between the journal and its stakeholders remains purely academic in nature and free from commercial exploitation. Announcements, calls for papers, and updates about the journal are communicated only through official channels such as the journal’s website or its recognized institutional platforms. The absence of direct marketing practices reflects the commitment to respecting the privacy of authors, reviewers, and readers, while ensuring that the reputation and credibility of the journal are preserved. By refraining from direct marketing, the journal underscores its position as a neutral and ethical platform where scholarly work is evaluated and disseminated without external commercial pressure.

4. Revenue Sources

The financial sustainability of the journal is secured through a strictly non-commercial framework, consistent with the CC BY-NC-SA license. The primary sources of revenue consist of Article Processing Charges (APC), which are clearly and transparently defined on the journal’s APC page, as well as institutional support and funding from academic bodies or non-profit organizations. All revenue generated through these channels is used exclusively to maintain and improve the journal’s operations. This includes managing the peer review system, ensuring high-quality editorial services, maintaining technological infrastructure, and supporting open access dissemination. It is crucial to state that payment of APC or receipt of institutional funding has no influence whatsoever on the editorial process. Manuscripts are assessed solely on their academic contribution, methodological rigor, and alignment with the aims and scope of the journal. The separation of financial management from editorial decision-making is absolute, and no revenue consideration is permitted to override this principle.

5. Commitment to Editorial Independence

The Journal of Islamic Heritage and Civilization affirms with utmost clarity that editorial independence is at the core of its identity as an academic platform. Every manuscript undergoes evaluation based solely on its scholarly value, relevance to the field, and contribution to ongoing academic discourse. Neither advertising, nor sponsorship, nor financial contributions through APC, nor any other form of revenue has the power to influence the outcome of editorial decisions. This principle is strictly enforced to protect the integrity of the peer review process and to guarantee fairness to all authors regardless of their financial or institutional affiliations. By adhering to this commitment, the journal ensures that it remains a trustworthy medium for the dissemination of rigorous and ethical scholarship in the study of Islamic heritage and civilization.
